SEND
(Special Educational Needs and Disabilities)
At Crigglestone and The Castle Nursery Schools, we are proud to be inclusive schools where every child is valued, supported, and encouraged to thrive. We celebrate each child’s unique strengths and abilities, and children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) are fully included in all aspects of school life alongside their peers.
We believe that working closely with parents and carers is the key to helping every child reach their full potential. By sharing knowledge, experiences, and aspirations, we can provide the best possible support and opportunities for all children to grow in confidence, curiosity, and independence.
What is SEND?
SEND refers to children who have learning difficulties or disabilities that make it significantly harder for them to learn or access education than most children of their age.
Our schools are committed to providing tailored support for each child, led by our SENDCo, Mrs Heather Shepherd, and delivered by our caring and skilled staff. We focus on enabling children to flourish academically, socially, and emotionally in a nurturing environment.
If you would like to know more about our SEND provision, please contact Mrs Heather Shepherd via the school office:
- Crigglestone: (01924) 251151
- The Castle: (01924) 664787
At Crigglestone and The Castle, we are dedicated to celebrating every child and ensuring that all children, including those with SEND, are supported to achieve their very best.

The forum is led by a small group of local parents who are looking forward to listening to, and representing the views of parents, young people and children in the future.
These parents all have a wide experience of what it is like to be a parent of a child with an additional need or disability in the Wakefield area. They want to work with you to make a positive difference and improve the quality of life for all children and families in Wakefield.
